For many of my students, there is just too much going on in the world. Their sense are overly sensitive and they have too much information coming at them. For typical students, they can regulate this information and focus on what is important. The sound of the teacher's voice is important. The sound of the humming computer is not. My students struggle with this. With sensory tools like balance ball chairs and headphones, students can better regulate their senses while learning math. They can tackle more difficult topics with their new scientific calculators and reach levels they could not in the past.
