My 2nd grade students are at the stage in their learning that they need all the hands-on materials that they can wrap their hands around. The more alive and real I make the math, the more they will internalize all that is being taught. I am asking you to support my classroom needs of more Math, Literacy, and Science manipulatives. Who remembers learning place value and regrouping by using linking/connecting cubes? Do you remember how you learned about geometric shapes? These essential skills are taught through the manipulation of Math materials. By receiving math manipulatives and hands-on materials, students will be able to engage in the math lessons that they are receiving in school. We will use these manipulatives to better visualize the math. Some of the manipulatives will also be used for math centers, which will allow students to be more independent in their learning. Another way I want to ensure my students are learning all that they can is by creating interactive notebooks in the subjects of Math, Literacy, and Science. These notebooks contain examples of each of the major concepts we learn in 2nd grade, and it is all created by THE STUDENTS! They will use these interactive notebooks they create as a reference throughout the year.
