In a world where we swipe our cards, or pay with an app, our students are becoming less familiar with concepts of money. Unfortunately, that can be seen with the average American increasing their amount of debt monthly. Students used to easily identify quarters from video games, or vending machines. However, even many of the popular arcade places use a "token card" now instead of coins. My project aims to enable students to manipulate money on a daily basis as they learn to earn, save and spend their coins responsibly. Positive behaviors, such as coming to school, using kind words, helping a classmate, etc. will be rewarded with a "bonus" (extra coins) based on prices that the students set as a class. Students will learn how to exchange money from coins to dollars, or smaller coins to quarters. We will have a class "store." Again, the prices will be set by the students. The students will be able to save their class money to spend in the store. By doing so, students will learn the concept of saving to get a larger item later, counting their money and making change.
