As the intensive reading teacher in a middle school where the student population is mostly those who are learning English as a second language, I am always looking for ways to increase focus and attention. Because my students are already struggling readers it is somewhat difficult to sustain focus in a reading class as well as progress towards learning goals. By giving my students a balance ball as a chair in their rotations it will allow then to exert extra energy while still working and not distracting others. Studies have shown that movement increases blood flow to the brain, thus learning can occur at a higher rate! I honestly believe that these chairs could help my students become successful reader! Because they will be increasing their focus they will make more gains toward their goals, which will increase their motivation to work hard.
