We are excited to implement excellent units of study called EngageNY. We believe that the EngageNY curriculum is well suited to meet the literacy needs of our students, many of whom share English as a second language. However, under the new curriculum, we lack funding for the required student books. Finances are a struggle for our student body, with greater than 88% of students eligible for free or reduced lunch. The budget shortfall limits the ability of our students to fully take part in their own academic goals. We find meeting this need critical, and are looking to other sources of funding. I invite you to partner with me, and together set the stage for young students to build their future through literacy. I am a 5th grade English and Language Arts teacher who has undertaken as a priority to find a way for my students to have what they need in order to succeed.
