Literacy is the greatest indicator of student success in general education courses.
Students with ELL services receiving sheltered instruction are the only students on campus who do not have a daily access to online tools that have scaffolded supports for students, guide teacher instruction and serve as formal data that can be used to advocate for increased student learning opportunities that have not historically been offered this population.
Accessing online supports means that students can utilize online scaffolding tools (Grammarly, PaperRater, Springboard online etc.) to reach challenging content. Also, online formative assessment tools offer easy to use and creative assessment tools for students and teachers.
Newcomer students, also known as Non-English Proficient (NEP) students, will utilize the Chromebooks to access enrichment and remediated supports via Imagine Learning during extended learning opportunities after school.
Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Fluent English Proficient (FEP) students will utilize the Chromebooks to access Google Classroom, leveled reading sites (NewsELA, Commonlit, Achieve3000 etc.) and as a way to advance media literacy. These opportunities help create more equitable learning experiences for students with ELL services.
