Can you learn on an empty stomach? Imagine these sweet faces that look up at you trying to focus but can’t due to missing breakfast or an early lunch. As the day progresses they begin to lose focus due to an empty stomach. Most of my students come from low-income homes and more times than not receive most of their meals at school. We need snacks to re-energize and meet our basic needs. Food is a serious need in my community. They cannot be successful learners when they are preoccupied with a growling tummy. I want my students to have the food they need. Providing my students with snacks will allow them to focus on learning since their basic needs will be met. Once my students have had their basic needs met, we can truly focus on learning. No child should have to learn in a state of hunger and I hope this project takes care of that need.
