Students will be witnessing their progression through the year with these "portfolio-binders". Often times, educators find themselves in front of a classroom of students with large learning gaps. This is much more predominant within a lower-income demographic where many students have moved from school-to-school, house-to-shelter-to-house and are struggling to meet mandated standards at grade level. These children are given failed test after failed test and to watch their confidence lower as they are handed these mandated exams is disheartening. My students are certainly not hitting the middle of the bell curve, but each child has overcome consistent academic challenge and made phonemonal progress in doing so. This binder would be filled with their hard work from the beginning of the year through the end where each student can notice his or her personal growth. It is vital to keep these children confident in learning. Help my students witness their growth and build confidence as learners!
