Having to teach our new common core language arts standards for the past years has been a real struggle since our language arts standards don't align with our new standards. Last school year, there were several standards that I feel my 3rd grade students didn't master because I didn't have the necessary resources to teach them since our current language arts program does not align with the common core standards. This summer, I spent many hours looking on line for resources that I could use this school year, so the story wouldn't repeat this school year's class. My prayers were answered when I found Scholastic News, Story works Jr., and Geography! I am the happiest teacher because I know that with these magazines I will be able to cover a lot of the common core standards! Most importantly with colorful current issues students will definitely develop their joy of reading.
