I have planned 4 quarters (9 weeks each) of skills and choreography for ballet, tap, jazz and modern. Last year, I had many students that learned tap without shoes, and we used bottle caps on the bottom of their shoes. Students need ballet shoes, jazz shoes, tap shoes and the correct clothing to actually learn the different elements of dance. I purchased many of the shoes and items for my students last year, and the moment they got their new items, they started moving. During my advisory class, right after we started the tap unit, I would hear tapping in the halls as students were showing off their newfound skills. These kids deserve to have the items necessary to learn these four different disciplines of dance. This year, I am excited as we welcome several students with physical disabilities, I fully believe ALL students should be given the opportunity to dance if they choose. Now, they just need the gear!
