Reading stamina is something my students just do not have due to their low reading abilities. I am requesting some class sets as well as individual books written by a well know African American author. These books will allow us to read and have great discussions as a whole and small group. I will also obtain the audio for many of these books to allow even he lowest reader to participate by following along in their book. The individual books written by Walter Dean Myers will provide the students with relevant reading material for independent reading at both school & home and this will enable them to grow their reading abilities. Many of Walter Dean Myers books deal with the inner city youth and the trials and tribulations they often face in their everyday lives. My students are able to relate to the characters and subject matter in these novels and because of that they more vested in the reading process.
