Technology is everywhere in the classroom now, so much so that even our state testing is done online! I had to take my teaching tests online and now our students are taking their state tests online. Many children come into third grade with little computer experience. They are excellent texters and touch screen masters, but typing is a whole other story... Chromebooks open the classroom to online educational websites. My school district funds online educational programs such as RazKids and Xtramath. These websites give students the fluency practice they need with reading and math, something they are more likely to do if it is online versus paper and pencil. Chromebooks are engaging and invite students to physically engage with their learning (dragging products to the correct multiplication problem, clicking on two words that sound alike but have different definitions). When students are excited to learn, they do more than learn, they develop a love for education.
