My project is to create a comfortable spot for students to get lost in their self-selected reader's workshop books. I had to throw out all my bean bag chairs due to wear and tear (yes they were popular). I have found that when the students are allowed to spread out to work in a comfortable setting, they are more likely to stay on task. Fostering independent readers involves giving them their own personal space. By using bean bag chairs, I am allowing them to spread out and not be right next to another student. This flexible seating arrangement allows independence. These chairs will make a difference during my reading block as well as during cooperative group work.
