Non-fiction texts are heavily emphasized in our curriculum. Reading is such an integral part of lives. As a teacher, it is my job to make sure that not only do students learn to read, but to make sure that they enjoy reading as well. Students love to read and learn about volcanoes and other natural disasters. This high interest text will allow for excitement in reading all while the students are learning how to take notes and get a deeper understanding of the world around them. They are all high interest texts that help excite our students' learning. High interest, non-fiction texts are critical to our students' success. These non-fiction text resources will be used in reading groups to teach specific reading skills. These skills include comparing and contrasting, predicting, and note taking. These are skills that will benefit children in many aspects of life. If kids are excited about what they are reading it makes reading fun and what is learned is remembered.
