The Fire 7 tablets and protective cases that I am requesting for my students will support them in the difficult task of learning English by providing access to numerous resources and working with various applications connected to the internet.
Once our tablets arrive we will download and begin teaching them how to use language support apps such as Duolingo, Mosalingua, and Rosetta Stone so that they can begin practicing their verbal English skills. This is the area that our students struggle with the most and are least confident in.
We will also teach our students how to use specific tools on the Fire tablet that includes a bilingual dictionary, as well as how to download books in English and Spanish and vocabulary games that can also support with their English skills.
Students will be able to use these tablets during intervention periods but also check them out to use at home, as well.
By donating to our project you will be helping my ELL students gain confidence and find their voice! I am hoping that with this extra practice my students will, in turn, feel confident enough to participate more in class, add their perspective to interesting classroom discussions, and feel like they are a part of our school community. They have so much to say and by getting this extra support they will be able to get closer to achieving their language goals for the year!
