Most of our students have not had opportunities to garden and learn how to grow food. At our Title I school, at least 60% live in apartments with no gardening capabilities. This environmental project will allow students a chance to get their hands in the soil and feel the satisfaction of creating spaces in which beautiful and "yummy" plants grow. The intention of this project is to create Master Gardeners. Starting in 6th grade, students will learn to till the soil, plant, harvest, weed, and nurture seeds and plants. These skills will carry on through 7th and 8th grade. We hope to foster a love of gardening and caring for the environment that will stay with students for the rest of their lives. We are requesting garden tools including shovels, trowels, soil, gloves, and knee pads to facilitate our goal.
