My students need to be exposed to lots of non-fiction texts. In my classroom library, I have accumulated far more fiction books than non-fiction books. My students deserve to be able to open up many different types of books. For most of my students, the classroom will be one of the only places that they will be exposed to non-fiction books. In today's world, it is important for my students to have access to a wide variety of non-fiction books. With this material, they will not only be able to find out more about the world they live in, but make opinions about what they have read.
