"We need teachers who allow kids to be crazy enough to believe they can actually change the world"-Hal Bowman. This is a quote I strive for daily in my classroom. I'm privileged have the opportunity to challenge a room of 2nd graders to think outside of the box, learn at their highest level, and persevere through "brain sweat" problems on a daily basis. Over 80% of my student qualify for free and reduced lunch. As a thriving classroom in a K-5 STEAM Academy, my students get to look at the world through a scientific lens. With an integrated approach to learning, my students stretch their brains through the inquiry process and project based learning. We learn how to help our community by becoming Community Heroes, we study our global trash problem and come up with innovative solutions, and we're currently planning and building a school garden, which can be used as an outdoor learning lab for all grades to enjoy.
