Pre-K children are active and seek gross motor activities as part of their natural development. Through their play and interests, I've observed my children being fully engaged in activities when they are moving their bodies. Our circle times often consist of brain breaks and yoga, and children request these activities throughout the school day. Research has shown that movement enhances development in young children by stimulating the brain to assist in language development. My students inspired me to create a fitness zone in our classroom through their requests and wishes to want to move. Your donation would allow my students to have a fitness center in my classroom, giving children easy access to a space specifically designed for movement in order to promote health and fitness. Children use the outside playground for gross-motor activities, but being able to have movement opportunities inside would positively impact their development. I've included a balance board, an exercise CD, yoga balls, stability cushions, yoga mats, and the build and balance course, all which would aid in the development of self-regulation. In addition, balance and coordination assist with attention and concentration, body awareness, posture control, and sensory processing.
