Incorporating a large rug into our classroom will create a flexible space to meet. It will be a welcoming space at the beginning of each day for our morning meeting. It provides a smaller and more intimate learning space for whole group instruction in ELA and Math. It allows me time to quickly confer with individual students and assess them as they are working in partnerships and small groups with manipulatives. A community rug will be a safe space for sharing intellectual and emotional thinking throughout the day. Lastly, it is a great active break space for lively six year olds and offers us an alternative recess space on rainy days!
