Technology provides an additional way for my students to take charge of and be engaged in their learning. Using the Chromebooks will permit students to listen and watch as an online book is read to them. As they increase their skills they will be able to read a story at their individual reading level and immediately quiz themselves on their comprehension. In addition, it will allow them to "play" learning games where they can increase their skills in phonics, sight words, and comprehension. My students enter first grade with a desire to learn & one of my responsibilities is to personalize their learning. Many of my students have grown up with smartphones and tablets. Using this type of technology is second nature to them and something they gravitate towards. Having 2 Chromebooks will provide them a way to be actively involved as they learn and will give me an additional resource to help them.
