My students love the option of flexible seating to help with their focus while meeting their various learning styles. They know which the better location is to stay engaged and complete their work accurately and in a timely manner. Currently, they sit at different tables, on beanbags, at a computer desk re-purposed as a standing desk, or on the floor with clipboards. I have listed two active learning chairs/stools that my students will also benefit from to help with their movement and learning needs. A classroom rug is requested for my students who need extra space for class activities such as reading independently and working on math or other learning centers and projects. My students are more engaged when they have flexible seating options to complete their work. I am aware of my student needs as I taught them last year and optional seating and frequent movement breaks were necessary to keep them on task and motivated to do their personal best. Both the active learning chairs/stools and rug I requested will benefit my students. The stools are the size I need for fourth graders and the rug is a large size to accommodate many of the 24 students I will have this year. They are a diverse group and giving them seating options is an opportunity for them to do their work while not disrupting others and staying focused. My floor is tile, so a rug is more conducive to meeting their needs. When my students are at centers during ELA and Math, I encourage them to find a comfortable spot to get their work completed while getting their wiggles out. Both these requested items will be a welcome addition and I'm looking forward to another year of learning gains from my wonderful group of kiddos!
