My students need to read about protagonists that look like them and have gone through the same experiences that they have. After scouring yard sales and Goodwill, I have amassed quite a library. However, many of the books that I have don't have diverse main characters. In order to foster a love of reading and help kids process issues in their lives, they need to be able to read books about characters that are going through the same things they are. I plan on using the readers workshop model to help students see the value in reading. I want to create a love of reading that will last them their whole lives. We would appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you so much!
