These books will enable my students to choose books with topics that are interesting to them and that are on their reading level. Currently, we have very few books in our classroom, and as such, my students do not have the opportunity to practice reading in an authentic way. I am requesting a set of twenty books on each of the 4 different reading levels that students are expected to master from the beginning through the middle of first grade. My students love to read! They love reading and listening to new stories. These books will allow students to develop necessary and prerequisite reading skills to be successful in later grades. They will be able to practice decoding, comprehension, and fluency skills. Many of my students are English Language Learners, and a variety of literature will facilitate their language and vocabulary development. In addition, this project will provide enough choice for them to be able to read for pleasure. Students will practice speaking, listening, and reading with classmates, and they will discuss literature in a genuine way.
