For decades, athletes have served as role models to youth across the country. That role applies to not just the professional athletes, but also to college and high school students. This project will begin a project that will utilize my school's Boys Volleyball Team senior and junior members to be outfitted with FitBits. The information that we gather will be displayed publicly to the school community to show how these boys are exercising during the off season, and how hard they work when they are in season.
We will also be working with our Health department to create a project for our Freshman students to utilize the data collected from our athletes to inform and hopefully inspire the freshman to get involved in our athletic community or get active on their own time.
Last year, the Varsity boys team came up with this project and tried to raise money for Fitbits. They were unsuccessful, but utilized basic heart monitors and pedometers. While these provided a basic level of information, it did not reach the audience we were looking for. Through this project, they are excited to continue its role as athletic leaders in the school and look forward to enhancing their public presence to motivate the greater school community.
