There is a time for sitting still, but that time does not consist of 6 hours a day for 8/9 year olds. Flexible seating has been proven to enhance focus and learning. Students should be able to flex and stretch. Some may just need to get some wiggles out! If you were to peek into my room, you would see students on top of tables, under tables, and stretched out on the floor with clipboards. But they are engaged and they are focused. I want to offer them more options. The tables and stools that I have chosen will help my students to work collaboratively, independently or, one on one. All of this, and stay engaged. It will give students a chance to have some control over their learning environment.
