Hi! My name is Karen Jokumsen. I have been teaching Kindergarten for 25 years. Some people think I'm crazy, but I love it. The impact I am able to make on children socially, emotionally, and academically is so very rewarding. Kindergarten has changed so much the past 25 years. We have gone from learning through play and developmental practice only, to where we are today.....teaching kids to read, write, and do math using not only our curriculum but also manipulatives and technology ! Even though kindergarten has changed to being so much more academic, I still believe in teaching the "whole" child. I believe in instilling a sense of community; a sense of belonging. I believe in manners, in treating others with kindness, in playing, and developing a love of learning. Magical things happen in my classroom!
