Many of the children in my class are Hurricane Harvey survivors and are just happy to be alive. Being in school provides them with a safe place and a returning sense of normalcy. The children I serve, come from lower third ward Houston. These children have seen and been through more than their averaged aged peers, but still come to my classroom everyday eager to learn and try new things. Education is not a priority, but rather a burden for many of my families. I am proud to be able to help these students and families change their mindsets, and reach their full potentials through education. Our school does not have a lot resources such as a library, computers, manipulative etc. to help students become active learners. These donations will not only give hope to my children academically, but provide confirmation that they are not defined by their circumstances and that education can provide a better tomorrow.
