Being in a Title I school, my students are at a constant disadvantage with the lack of resources they need in the classroom. I as their teacher struggle with best meeting their needs in the limited amount of time I am provided. Scholastic News fits both the students' needs as well as my own by integrating social studies and language arts into one resource. Many of my students don't have books at home. This Scholastic News magazine would give each of my students a copy of their very own to which they can use for reading at home. Some of my students struggle with reading. By providing a resource that is both interesting and hands on, it will encourage them to read, and more importantly, read about things going on in the real world. I hope to foster a love for learning and reading! My struggling readers tend to be more resistant to reading, but giving them an informative and educational resource can be highly motivating when the content is relevant to the student's interest and current events.
