It is widely known that first graders proficient at reading finish the year exposed to about 19,000 words, while students who struggle read fewer than 10,000. This is a result of both insufficient teaching and lack of access to books at home - books they want to read. We are a new school working to build a library, so our students always go home with high-interest, awesome books. We need a vast array of leveled reading books to learn to enjoy reading! Our titles include Amelia Bedelia, pinky and Rex, Tales of Oliver Pig, Frog and Toad and many more. The goals are simple: To make them life-long, avid readers, and to close the opportunity gap and ensure that they have the resources and tools necessary to go to and through college!
