My students need to be able to experience reading different ways. Research suggests that a first grader needs to be read to quite often. Our curriculum recommends that a child listen to about 500 books being read to them. This can be done by a teacher reading to them, a parent reading to them, volunteers and through technology. I am asking for a listening center that will give my students the opportunity to hear a higher number of books during first grade. Students will be able to pick out books that interest them. Listening to the books they choose makes it an even better experience. listening to books expands their vocabulary which in turn will enhance their reading and writing skills.
