I follow Jan Richardson’s guided reading model to help my students become better readers. While I am working at a guided reading table with a group, my other students need meaningful activities to do. Therefore, my request is for a quality listening center. Research shows that hearing reading is one component in becoming a reader. Children could hear reading with this center, which will benefit their ability to learn to read. After they hear a book on the listening center, I plan to do a follow up writing activity as well, such as their opinion of the book. So now, this project brings in another element of literacy which is writing. This project will also foster independence as well as reading and writing.
