My school district reorganized 2 years ago to bring 3rd graders into our building. Unfortunately, my school is small and funding is tight so we don't have a lot of books for the 3rd grades in our school librbay, especially for students reading below grade level. Currently, students who are already struggling to read are stuck fumbling through books beyond their ability, making reading something that is frustrating and unenjoyable. By having a class set of George's Marvelous Medicine, I can promote reading in a group format and assign projects that really draw the students into the book. Sometimes all it takes is that one good read to hook kids. That is the purpose of this book for my classroom; to hook them and build their love of reading. I can't think of a better author to use then Roald Dahl. I plan to use other books by this author through the year to continue building a love of reading.
