My students need fiction and nonfiction leveled libraries in order to grow their reading level and confidence as readers! As a beginning reader, there is nothing more discouraging than picking up a book that you have no access to and this discouragement could lead a child to hate reading. Reading is the foundation to all learning. If a child's relationship with reading is positive, the extent of their learning is limitless. At my school, one out of five first graders begin the school year on level. Irregardless of what level my students come to me on, it is my mission to end the year with a classroom full of students on level for second grade. These leveled libraries will enable me to guide students to find their "just right" books. Once students have access to books that are written on their level, they will begin to enjoy reading! They will be able to connect to the plot and characters of fiction stories and learn new facts about a topic they previously had no schema for while reading the nonfiction books. The students you are making this donation for, most likely do not have this variety of books in their homes. It is so important to me that I make the most of their time with me in the classroom. My students will be able to read these books during reading center time and throughout the day when they have extra time. My students are a part of OUR future and your donation will positively impact many children's lives!
