Students will use their sketchbooks in guided practice activities, such as value scales and geometric drawings. They'll use them to plan for projects, which helps us communicate about how to turn their visions into reality. They'll also use them to stay organized, gluing in worksheets and handouts. Last semester, I used sketchbooks with my Art 1 classes, and the results were amazing. Students were more organized, and by the end of the semester they had learned many strategies that they could take with them into other classes. They loved flipping back through their books to see how much progress they had made, too!
