My students are in need of leveled books at their various independent and instructional levels. These books have familiar characters that my students enjoy. Students will use these books for various purposes, including independent practice, buddy reading, and small group instruction. My students often report not having books at their level to practice reading at home. I also typically have a number of students whose parents do not speak English. Students will be given the opportunity to take these books home nightly for extra practice and to show off their new skills to their families. First grade is so important in building their reading foundation and in creating a love of reading and learning in students.
