As a teacher, I care about helping my students to become confident, caring, considerate citizens of the world. Picture books about social-emotional issues can assist my students to think deeply about their own, as well as other's, feelings and social issues. Sharing these books with children of all ages will help them develop the ability to identify with others, develop empathy, and talk about their feelings. My focus with the titles I have chosen will assist children with fears, resiliency, feelings, overcoming challenges, self awareness/identify, friendships, self-control, grief, kindness and risk taking. By building my classroom library with books focusing on social/emotional growth, I will be able to teach specific skills or support students when they are in need while also increasing their exposure and love for literature!
