These shelves will be an asset to our classroom by housing some of the supplies students used to keep in community bins or their desks. This extra space will allow the students to take charge of organizing their desks more easily. They will be able to access their binders that used to not fit in their desks. Some students used to have to put them in their book bags. We put many materials from our lessons, as well as homework, and keep our passwords in these binders. Easier access to them will help students transition to work mode easily. Organization and space to create it is one of the keys to students being independent learners. Students who know where supplies are can be in charge of directing their learning. These shelves will house students reading books, as well as materials needed for our guided reading meeting. Students will be able to be in charge of grabbing what they need and getting together with their groups quickly and independently. The shelves will also house materials for our Science Kits and books for our Social Studies units. My students can be rock stars- directors, critical thinkers and problem solvers in every subject!
