I teach over 100 6th grade students at a Title-1 school where more than half of the students qualify for free and/or reduced lunches. Many of my students live in poverty and struggle to have their basic needs met. They come to my class thinking that they are not "good" at science. I use phenomena ask my students to notice and wonder about the world they live in. By engaging them in hands-on science and giving them opportunities to explore and question, my students begin to have a positive growth mindset about learning science. My goal is to show them how interesting and engaging science can be. I want them to start thinking like a scientist and begin to love it like I do!
