My students are limited in experiences that are related to animal care and production. This project is to have materials that can help in the decision making and choice of the many fields available in animal agriculture. These materials will deepen the understanding of the agricultural industry. The materials selected will be used to teach students and give some hands-on experiences in understanding animal agriculture. The classroom materials will be used to encourage obtaining animal for the agriculture program at Rosenwald. The materials are designed to give introductory understanding to beginning students as well as enrichment for advanced students in the Agritechnology program. Students will gain specific knowledge of nutritional needs of cattle, swine, horses, goats, poultry,and other small animals. Students will be able to distinguish the types of rations the different digestive systems can process and why. They will also gain specific knowledge of how the feed is converted into the meat we eat and the quality of meat grades. Students will also know where the cuts of meat are taken from the various animals. For example, students will know exactly where a porterhouse steak is taken from the carcass of cattle when they order it from the menu of a restaurant, or where a pork chop comes from.
