The students come to class every day ready to learn and do their best. Students in our school come from diverse cultural, linguistic, racial, ethnic, ability, socioeconomic, gender, religious, immigration and family backgrounds. While the students are aware of how diverse our community is, they have limited access to culturally relevant literature. When reading, students often ask why there aren't characters who look like them or have similar lives to them. My students crave resources to which they can connect and characters to whom they can relate.
