The 2016-2017 school year was my first at this school. I learned that the majority of these urban students do not know how to play organized games at recess. Instead, they stand in clusters talking, singing, or doing dance steps. When they return to the classroom, they are still full of energy. This project will help students get the exercise and the release of energy they need to better focus in the classroom. My goal is to set up stations at recess that will teach students the rules, expectations, and fun of games like kickball, ½ court basketball, catch with a partner, double dutch jump rope songs/steps, and others. We need jump ropes, soccer balls, footballs and other equipment. The organized games will get ALL kids more active and engaged. A secondary goal is that these organized games will promote teamwork, social skills, and interaction with different students.
