Next year our school will not have services provided by a library teacher due to funding issues. This is particularly hard for me as a teacher that serves a very diverse student and family population. There is a lot of unknowns- such as when and how students will access the school library, who will order new books, who will maintain the school library materials, etc. With these unknowns, I am trying to be proactive and provide diverse reading materials to my students. Students should see themselves in the classroom. That means they should see themselves in books and they should have access to those books. This includes multiple religious and cultural content and my current classroom library is not equipped to meet my student needs. My current classroom library is especially lacking in picture books. This project will help fill those gaps and help meet the needs of my students!
