Having a class set of Ukuleles would be a wonderful start to my program as it provides opportunities for years to come at multiple grade levels. I am a new teacher starting a new program with limited resources and the desire to introduce my students to new instruments and new ways of creating music. Having a class set of ukeleles and all of the necessary accessories will allow me to start a ukelele program that will benefit students of all abilities and socioeconomic statuses, providing opportunities to bring music to all. The ukuleles will provide hands-on access for learning what chords do and how to accompany a song. With the ukuleles, they can have a full song unit: first writing lyrics, creating a melody, and now adding the chords. They will also be able to have mini bands in class with singers, ukulele players, and drummers. They will also have the chance to integrate the ukelele into their regular classroom studies. What a great experience for upper elementary students!
