As a class, we will be reading four books together: One Crazy Summer (Williams Garcia), The Breadwinner (Ellis), Smile (Telgemeier), and Baseball in April (Soto). The first three books all have at least one sequel. After we read the books as a class, I'd like to give students the option to continue with the series in small, self-led groups. This project lets students continue their journeys with different characters. The hardest part of reading a novel is getting into the story and falling in love with the characters. Serials are a great way to engage students with reading and let them continue to enjoy characters they love.
