I am a first grade teacher at Diamond Springs Elementary School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. My students come from a high poverty area with approximately 74% of students coming from economically disadvantaged households. We have a very transient population with a large majority of military and single parent families. Most of my students have very little at home in terms of books, resources, food, and even attention. Unfortunately, most of my students do not have the luxury of going home at night to read a good book or be read to. I intend on promoting the love of reading to my students by providing them with the chance to read in a comfortable, engaging, and open atmosphere and by offering an array of books that reach every child's interest. It is my goal to provide my students with a loving, safe, and positive learning environment to give them the best opportunity to succeed and become leaders in our society.
