Many of the students I will come into contact with will be struggling readers. As an educator I believe that it is my duty to positively influence the precious minds of our future through teaching them to read effectively. One way to do this is to provide an area within my classroom where students will come together in small groups so that they may receive personalized instruction. I have requested a small group reading table as well as reading materials to provide focused instruction to students that will be grouped in tiers according to their reading levels. Using this specific kind of table will allow more access to at least 3-4 students at a time. Also, the instructional materials requested are leveled so that I will be able to meet and teach each student where they are in their reading ability. Because I am a reading teacher, it is my duty to make sure that every student that I come into contact with will receive effective and quality reading instruction and strategies that will assist them beyond the classroom. I believe that while providing personalized small group instruction, students will thrive and succeed as their confidence is built. When their confidence is built in their ability to read, they will be able to understand that they can become anything they want to become despite the status of their current socioeconomic status.
