No matter what school you are at most teachers run into the same problem - their students have the wiggles. School requires a lot of sitting for these students and it is not natural for them. So why not allow them the opportunity to get those wiggles out while still learning? This upcoming school year I plan to allow my students to choose their own seats based on their learning needs and how they can stay focused. Students will be able to come into class each day and choose whether they would like to sit on a bouncy ball, wiggle disk, a seat that has a band to kick, or maybe just a normal seat. They can even choose to work on the floor with a lap desk. The students will be able to learn which style of seating keeps them focused and know what seat just makes them want to play. By having flexible seating I hope that it will keep my kids reading! For this type of seating to work the students will need community supplies that will be held in table caddies. They will also need a drawer in an organizer cart to keep notebooks and workbooks in.
