Our students are from a high poverty area. Many parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet and each of our classrooms contain students who face the reality of displacement and homelessness, living in multiple locations within a school year either with family members, in temporary shelters or motels. A large majority of our students have been here less than a year and are working on their language acquisition. One might think that the load of unstable homes and heartaches would tarnish their outlook on life, but it hasn't. They come to school each day with a hope for a kind smile, a warm meal, and a community of people who care.
