My students are sixth graders who live in a rural, Northern New Jersey town. Many of them own farms which have been in their families for generations. My students are active in their community by participating in community service. They also are involved in the school community in regards to clubs, sports, etc. They are sweet, kind children who attend school to better their lives with the hope of being successful when they graduate. Our school district is part of a larger regional district. The middle school has approximately 450 students ranging from grades 6-8. In Language Arts, we recently implemented the Lucy Calkin's Reader's/Writer's Workshop model. This model requires students in all grades to gather on the floor in the front of the classroom for the mini-lesson. Being an old school, all of our floors are tiled and cold
